Conference on The Diverse Faces of Arithmetic
Second Announcement
There will be a conference on The Diverse Faces of Arithmetic, at the
University of East Anglia, Norwich, UK, December 14th-16th 2009, on
the occasion of the retirement of Graham Everest.
The conference will cover the remarkable interactions of Number
Theory with Logic, Dynamical Systems and Mathematical Physics: for
example, novel approaches to Hilbert's Tenth Problem, and connections
between Elliptic Divisibility Sequences and Integrable Systems. One of
the purposes of the conference is to bring together researchers in
quite diverse fields, the common point being an interaction with
Number
Theory, particularly concerning the arithmetic of recurrence
sequences.
The invited speakers will be:
Manfred Einsiedler (ETH Zurich),
Kirsten Eisentraeger (Penn State),
Graham Everest (UEA),
Kalman Gyory (Debrecen),
Andy Hone (Kent),
Valery Mahe (Franche-Comte, Besancon),
Alexandra Shlapentokh (East Carolina),
Igor Shparlinski (Macquarie, Sydney),
Chris Smyth (Edinburgh),
Nelson Stephens (Bristol),
Franco Vivaldi (Queen Mary, London).
Contact : The organizers can be contacted at arithme...@mth.uea.ac.uk.
Registration : Please email the organizers if you plan to attend.
There is a registration fee of 50 pounds payable upon arrival. This
will cover the conference dinner on Monday evening as well as lunch
and tea/coffee on all three days.
Support : The conference is supported by grants from the London
Mathematical Society and from the Number Theory Foundation.
Students : There will be a series of introductory lectures on elliptic
divisibility sequences aimed at graduate students. There are also some
funds available to support the attendance of graduate students. Please
contact the organizers for more details.
More details including a schedule will be available on the conference
