But, in order for your many scripts to be able to use whatever technique you
were able to develop, wouldn't that be another daunting, script revising,
prospect itself?
If you could write script code that could detect logical errors on the part
of your code, then you are probably a sophisticated enough scripter to be

I agree. One of the reasons for my inquiry is the fact that I developed many
scripts before it occurred to me that it might be useful to make a habit of
always including such an argument in the calling script.
The daunting prospect of having to revise every single script led to me
wonder if there wasn't some easier way of getting the info, and of verifying

Thank you. This too is a very helpful way to acquire the info.
It's noteworthy (I think...) that the event info is an html dependent
functionality, instead of being directly accessable through vbscript and
Windows. Sorry, I misread your post. I thought that you wanted to copy your files to
a folder with the date as its name. I now realise that you intend to use the
/D switch of xcopy. Unfortunately I now fail to understand the point of your
original question. Your original code would work quite nicely:
set Mydate=10/01/09

what does the set statement look like?
Not sure what you mean about foward slashes as this is the current working
line, I just want to replace the date with a variable.
This curently works but I need to edit several lines like this to update the
date, hence the need for a variable
xcopy "C:\Documents and Settings\Jason\Favorites" ^

It ain't Windows Scripting Host but it will work:
xcopy /d /s /y /c c:\datafiles c:\backup "d:%date:/=-%\"
Note this:
- Pick your own switches among my collection of /d /s /y /c.
- The /d: syntax in your code is incorrect.
- Inserting a date such as 10/01/09 won't work. Forward slashes are not
permitted as folder names.

Sorry if there is a better category, but I am sure someone here knows this.
I need to insert a date in an xcopy function inside a .bat
Something like:
set Mydate=%%10/01/09%%
xcopy c:\datafiles c:\backup /d:%Mydate%
I'm using xcopy to backup several directories and need just one place to
change the date instead of every xcopy line *presently* :(

I tend to use srcElement, instead. As I read it, fromElement is
activated when the thing that triggered the event is leaving the
element, where as srcElement occurs at the initiation of the event.
It may seem like a subtle difference, but it seems more intuitive to
me to work with the leading edge of an event than the trailing edge.

 Mark,
Some comments:
1. There is no method to allow images next to menu items
2. The syntax required for building menu items is more difficult than
needed. Perhaps an xml-based syntax would be better?
3. No keyboard interface for interacting with the menu (I can't use the
arrow keys to go through the menus, only the mouse)

In addition to the previous answer.
You can always examine the `event' object within you event handler
function. `event' object has fromElement attribute, which is the
reference to an element that activated the event.
Alex

Correct. As the programmer, it it up to you to provide the means necessary
to acomplish your task.
AFAIK, there is no such register that vbscript can poll.
If you come to the same conclusion, try using Wscript.Arguments to complete
this task.
